Writing and Spelling Part 4: Different spellings of the "ay" sound

I found this "Spelling Patterns for Long Vowels" chart to be an excellent way to determine which spellings to learn next. Little Mr. already knew how to read most of these sounds, but determining which spelling to use when writing is more challenging. By no means has he memorized which spellings are used for which words, but by having him practice the different spellings of the same sound now, I'm hoping the difficult spellings will become more second nature to him when he does start writing in school.

Structure of all Part 4 activities:

All the activities below were done similarly to last activities in Writing and Spelling Part 3:

  1. Ask your child to verbally spell the 3 words in quotation marks

  2. Then say the sentence out loud and ask them to write it down by sounding out and spelling each word themselves (with help whenever they need it).
